Stream side A from The Owl And The Pussycat, the latest LP from Cameron Stallones’s label

Rob Magill is a composer, multi-instrumentalist, poet and painter from Southern California. His new album The Owl And The Pussycat follows on from his 2015 tape Nobody On The High Mountain, also released on Cameron Stallones’s Sun Ark label. The record comprises “of two fascinating chamber pieces which thread together clarinet, sax, guitar and spoken word into precise and angular patterns”, writes Sam Davies in The Wire 390, adding that it combines “the angular poise and poetry of peak Red Krayola with the unruly yowl and flutter of Albert and Don Ayler”.

Magill has previously collaborated with Eugene Chadbourne, Black Spirituals' Marshall Trammell and Fell To Low’s Walker Delbo, as well as with Cameron Stallones and Alex Gray in Sun Araw Band.

The Owl And The Pussycat is out now. Subscribers can read Davies's full review of the record, alongside two other Sun Ark releases – Laraaji & Sun Araw’s Professional Sunflow and Cameron Stallones & Nicholas Malkin’s Music From Harvester – via Exact Editions.
