Listen: tracks from Bristol UFOs feature

August 2015

Listen to tracks by some of the musicians featured in the Bristol UFOs feature in The Wire 378

Joseph Stannard writes in The Wire 378: "Outside a cafe in the Cotswold town of Winchcombe, Flying Saucer Attack’s David Pearce is politely declining to discuss his first album of new material for 15 years. 'Your piece isn’t about that, is it?' he protests. 'It’s about the whole thing.' Pearce has got that right, the whole thing being a small, self-sufficient network of dreamers and refuseniks that clustered together in early 1990s Bristol. Flying Saucer Attack, Movietone, Crescent and Third Eye Foundation – along with various projects that orbited around this central nucleus such as Foehn and AMP – helped to forge a fresh vernacular for UK independent music that, at the time, was effectively drowned out by the boorish cacophony of Britpop."

1000 Dawns is Kate Wright of Movietone's new project and "The River Winds Its Way" is the first song she has recorded since 2003. The Balky Mule is Sam Jones of Movietone, Crescent, Flying Saucer Attack, Third Eye Foundation and more – "Soap" is a recording from his 2015 tour. Crescent's "Impressions" is their first new song since 2007 and Movietone's "Sun Drawing" is from their 1997 album Day And Night.
