Lo-fi musician R Stevie Moore is to embark on a tour for the first time in his 40 year career. His decision to tour has been propelled by the support of his fans for his new album Advanced.
The 59 year old, well known for self producing over 400 lo-fi releases on his label R Stevie Moore Cassette Club, recently ran into financial difficulty. To realise his album he used fund raising website kickstarter.com to gather donations from his devotees. The support was so enthusiastic that he again used kickstarter.com to announce the tour with the call "we need gas money, y'all".
Moore has teamed up with Brooklyn band Tropical Ooze to take Advanced on the road. His maiden tour through Europe and the United States will be documented by Jon Demiglio for the film Phonography, named after Moore's first collection of one-man-band tracks released in 1976. Ariel Pink joins Moore for a one off concert in New York (6 June). The tour takes place through to July.
