Creative Audio Archive crowdfunding 15 year archive of live music in Chicago

Chicago's Creative Audio Archive is crowdfunding a project to preserve 15 years worth of recordings of live music in the city, made by Malachi Ritscher between 1981 and 2006 and covering shows by Peter Brötzmann, Tortoise, Michael Zerang, Ken Vandermark, Joe McPhee, Kevin Drumm, Xiu Xiu and others. Ritscher recorded around five concerts a week until his death by self-immolation in 2006, in protest at the Iraq war.

The project aims to raise $5,000 to make digital copies of the recordings, in an effort to preserve and protect those that are currently most at risk from decay and degradation. CAA then has plans to take the recordings on tour around the city in the form of temporary listening stations, plus a showcase where those who have donated will have the opportunity to listen to the recordings.
