Track 10
"Ojodeagua"
from the forthcoming release Black Minutes
Israel Martínez writes:
Black Minutes was composed between 2011 and 2012 with the
support of FONCA’s grant (Jóvenes Creadores Program). Mexico is a
country in a deep crisis of violence; the government's strategy of
apparent eradication of drug cartels has detonated a war between
organized crime, police and military, mainly affecting the society
in general. Over 60,000 dead since 2006. In many parts of the
country there has been a social transformation, there are now more
empty playgrounds, abandoned streets, tension.
The main sources of my work are field recordings, which I select
and, most of the time, process, creating different conceptual
routes, and constantly giving a new dimension including electronic
sounds. I've recorded a lot of sounds across Mexico during the last
two years, on Black Minutes I try to express our
exasperating feeling of uncertainty through the sound. It will be
released in the next few months.
