"Niemeyer Harmonies no. 3 & no. 4"
forthcoming
Artist statement:
These recordings were made at an abandoned dome designed by
Brazilian mastermind Oscar Niemeyer during the 1960s and mid-70s.
While the very few sources available tell the story of the fair
being abandoned because of the civil war, the people of Lebanon all
told me that he abandoned the whole project a year earlier because
of his clashes with the municipality. The main structure has ever
since been abandoned, surviving the ongoing wars and conflicts that
have since been part of everyday life there. During the recordings,
I only used brushes and sticks, and pretty much used the
building as my instrument. Approximetly an hour after the
recordings, we walked into a crazy gunfight that escalated into
full insanity, with tanks entering the city and snipers on every
possible rooftop, which made the recording and the whole trip even
more special.
Mixing and mastering: James Plotkin
