"Static Memory #3"
Previously unreleased
Excerpt of live recording from performance for the Noise Above Noise series
Debbie Sharp is an artist and co-director of The Penthouse: an artist led experimental art space in Manchester city centre. Sharp works with installation, image, text, sound and performance. Her work uses multi-sensory triggers engaging with concepts of memory and space and the nature of violence and trauma. Her live sound works uses objects relating to time and memory such as inner clock mechanisms, amplified plaque making on metal and archive footage accompanied by abstract vocals built into walls of sound using heavy repetition performed in shadowy installations resulting in intimate trance like experiences.
Debbie says:
"My current series of works "Static Memory" are related to my major solo project A Packet of Crisps and a Bottle of Coke - an in depth practical research project stemming from an encounter with a victim of the Yorkshire Ripper as a child spanning Manchester, Bradford and Leeds with workshops, performances and exhibitions. The project and series looks into my personal fear as a child and young woman growing up in Bradford and more universal contemporary issues and experiences related to violence against women.
