Mutamassik – which means stronghold/tenacity in Arabic – is the producer, musician, DJ and artist Giulia Loli. Born in Italy to an Egyptian mother and Italian father, and raised mostly in the USA, her music is politically charged and aims to build a bridge between cultures. Mutamassik has worked in various groups including The Year Zero, Mucus, Telecorps (under the alias Edgar Um Bucholtz), Pledgedrive, Schick Strings, and more. As a DJ she focuses on African, Arabic and diaspora music. She also runs GGSS/Rocca AlMileda, which operates both as a fixed and mobile music and art studio in Brooklyn, Cairo and Tuscany. And she performs with guitarist Morgan Craft as Rough Americana.
