"Dragano Earworm"
Previously unreleased
Lea Bertucci is a sound artist and composer whose work bridges performance, installation and multichannel activations of acoustic space. Her electroacoustic preparation of the bass clarinet extends the instrument’s sound by incorporating speaker feedback. In recent years, her projects have expanded to site-specific improvisation, compositions for electronics and instruments, multichannel sound installations and collage.
“Dragano Earworm” is an excerpt from a forthcoming sound collage. Explaining the concept behind the release, Bertucci says: “It began as an earworm – a melody I could not get out of my head from the Bulgarian folk song “Dragano Draganke”. I thought it would be interesting to creatively describe the process of trying to forget the melody. Reel-to-reel tape and washes of microcassette noise shape a tapestry of layered and speed-shifted flute sounds. These seven minutes of audio are part of a longer collage that is still in process. Made in New York City, 2015.”
