Gum Takes Tooth are Thomas Fuglesang (acoustic drums, drum triggers) and Jussi Brightmore (electronics, sound shaping, vocals, percussion). The London based duo create their own electronic instruments to provide a unified, percussion based playing framework that allows them to cut free of any technocentric preoccupations. Conversely, Gum Takes Tooth say, they eschew potential tech focussed, emotive cul-de-sacs for spirit guided explorations with the visceral thrust of a wigged out psyche rock band. Taken from the album Mirrors Fold, “Sex Markings” sees Gum Takes Tooth swap their fuzzed frequency modulations and hard hitting pulse for a vessel propelled by West African poly-rhythms through the track’s mist wreathed, pandrogenous vocal shapes.
