If Dutch Saxophonist and composer Jorrit Dijkstra’s music draws its spirit and sound from the jazz tradition, it’s also shaped by the stylistic and cultural borders through which Dijkstra’s prepared to channel it to realise his evolving personal vision. Born in Eindhoven in 1966, he spent his formative years in Amsterdam’s vibrant improvisation community playing jazz, free improvisation and world music. Though he moved to the US in 2002, where his musical scope correspondingly expanded to embrace new contacts among the US experimental community, his work is still informed by his formative experiences in the Netherlands.
