Zedashe Ensemble

"Datvma Lkh'ini (Bear's Feast, Ach'ara)"

From Silver Sanctuary

Zedashe Ensemble are a polyphonic vocal choir and dance group from Georgia. Directed by Ketevan Mindorashvili, Zedashe are one of the country’s few mixed choirs led by women. The ensemble were founded in the mid-1990s to preserve the polyphonic folk songs and chants, unique to Georgia, that were largely lost during the Communist era. These chants are steeped in the country’s rich history, ranging from Orthodox Christian liturgical services back to its ancient pagan roots.

Featuring 22 songs drawn from 12 different regions, Zedashe’s ninth album Silver Sanctuary was released in North America in November 2020 by Electric Cowbell Records. Its ancient chants, ballads, wedding songs, work songs, medieval allegories, dance melodies, feast songs, instrumental melodies and more reflect decades of research and dedicated song collecting.
