Jay Mitta is a Tanzanian producer and DJ from Dar es Salaam, widely recognised as a key figure in the global rise of Singeli. Working at tempos that regularly push past 180 BPM, his tracks are built from clipped melodies, rapid-fire percussion, and raw street-level energy. Emerging from the Sisso Studios orbit, Mitta helped define a sound that moves between neighbourhood dance circuits and international club spaces without losing its edge. His releases on Nyege Nyege Tapes and beyond have positioned him as one of the most distinctive voices in East African electronic music. His latest album is coming out on Nyege Nyege Tapes in June 2026.
