SUMS is the collaborative project of French electronic producer Kangding Ray and Mogwai multi-instrumentalist Barry Burns. The project was first conceived by Berlin Atonal, who gave the pair carte blanche to develop a new group that brought together different elements of their respective musical backgrounds. Following their successful live debut at the festival’s 2015 edition, SUMS decided to take the project into the studio. Over a two year period, they began producing tracks that achieved an organic fusion of spatial electronics and post-rock sounds. In sum, SUMS blend the best of the musical legacies of Mogwai and Kangding Ray.
