"Canto VII"
From the release Anganga
Brazilian artist Juçara Marçal for well known for releasing the popular Encarnado album in 2013 whilst Cadu Tenório is a prolific composer from Rio de Janeiro’s noise/improv scene. Tenório played Novas Frequências Festival in 2012 as a supporting act for Hype Williams. Talking about this collaboration, Novas Frequências says, “Juçara’s songs are these unnerving and inebriating poetries that jump between the playful and the dramatic in a matter of seconds, usually over the energetic instrumentation of Kiko Dinucci (Passo Torto, Metá Metá). Cadu’s songs are a compliment to the critical catharsis of chaos; to the both punctual and continuous fruition of the unexpected.
Their forthcoming album Anganga is an interesting mix of their musical influences, a combination of Cadu’s noise production and Juçara’s reflection on Afro-Brazilian traditions. Most of the songs in Anganga are based in ancestral slaves chants sang in Mbundu Benguela, a language that has its origins in the people from the mountains in Angola.”
