Veteran Scottish avant pop crooner Momus met Swedish vinyl-wrangler John Henriksson in Paris in 2010. Initially inspired by hiphop turntablism, Henriksson had assembled a collection of samples from obscure vinyl curiosities, then recruited musician friends in Paris and Stockholm to turn them into new compositions. This material was sent on to Osaka, where Momus added his own arrangements and vocals, pressing the ‘haunted archive’ back into service. The resulting album, Thunderclown, was released in 2011.
