Smokey Quartz is the primary musical project of Californian artist Matthew Beck. After playing in local hardcore punk and noise rock groups, he discovered the synthesizer and the infinite possibilities of electronic music. Smokey Quartz music is largely synthesizer and sample based, utilising a range of sound sources from vacuum tube synthesizers and dusty vinyl records to field recordings and laptop processing. “Philosophical Zombie” is taken from their forthcoming self-released album Le Mat.
