Recorded in Cologne in 2000, “Tannenbaum” is an incantatory ritual intoned by Maria de Alvear over Drums Off Chaos. The latter, founded in 1982 by late Can drummer Jaki Liebezeit, include composer/author Manos Tsangaris and drummers Reiner Linke and Gero Sprafke. Madrid born composer de Alvear studied new music theatre under Mauricio Kagel, and she’s been in Cologne for 35 years. In 2014 she received the Spanish National Prize for Music for composition.
