American composer, musicologist and writer Peter Garland studied composition under James Tenney and Harold Budd. As a musicologist, his work has largely focused on Native American, Mexican and Southwestern American music; in addition he has championed outsider artists like Conlon Nancarrow and Harry Partch. His own works have been played around the world by such performers as pianists Aki Takahashi and Herbert Henck, accordionist Guy Klucevsek, The Kronos Quartet and percussionist William Winant, the latter also the performer of this composition for three gongs and a tam tam.
