A lo-fi freak folk/spoken word musician from Dagang Oilfield, an industrial zone at Bohai Bay in Northern China, Wang Zijian describes himself as a normal worker setting out to tell his innermost stories among the machines and ruins of the desolate place he calls home. Working with basic lo-fi equipment and writing “these love songs in disillusion”, he says, keeps him alive.
