In 2003, Pisco Crane assembled a six-piece band from talented like-minds in the slums of Democratic Republic of the Congo capital Kinshasa where he grew up. Inspired by a meeting with instrument builder Bebson De La Rue, he made his musical tools from discarded rubbish. The group’s furious mixture of industrial sonics, spiritual jazz, punk and Congolese soukous created a utopian vision of the future completed by performance artist, sculptor and fashion designer Lady Aisha’s vivid masks and costumes.
