Originally from Harare, Lori Vambe developed his music within Brixton, South London’s early 1970s squat scene, forming the shortlived group The Healing Drums Of Brixton with sculptor Alexander Sokolov and outsider musician Michael O’Shea. A self-taught drummer, Vambe created his own instrument, the drumgita (pronounced drumguitar), following a vision seen in a dream. His 1982 home recordings Drumgita Solo and Drumland Dreamland were recently reissued by Strut as Space Time DreamTime.
