Invoking spiritual jazz and postminimalism while subverting world music cliches, Hantu is the project of Malaysian-Australian multi-instrumentalist and ethnomusicologist Isobel D’Çruz Barnes, also bassist with punk group Hexdebt. Zither Deluxe reworks material from Hantu’s 2022 solo EP Zither, expanding the line-up to a quintet featuring Genevieve Fry (harp), Tom Flenady (double bass), Rama Parwata (gamelan), Zach Schneider (guitar/ synth) in addition to D’Çruz Barnes playing flute and zither.
