Manchester’s Dave Clarkson has made experimental music for more than four decades, both solo and in groups, with over 50 releases to his name. These include several in the Pocket Guide series created from field recordings of shorelines, caves, forests and fairgrounds. On Was Life Sweeter? he turns to vintage confectionery, interrogating nostalgia through the sounds of sweets, fizzy drinks, ice cream vans and dentists’ drills.
