Yashlik

"Yashlik"

From Yashlik

New Uzbek label Maqom Soul begins its mission of reviving rare and overlooked music from Central Asia with a reissue of the 1978 album by the Uyghur group Yashlik (which translates as Youth). Founded in 1974 at the Uyghur Music and Drama Theatre in Almaty by Murat Akhmadiev, later a prominent cultural and political figure in Kazakhstan, Yashlik offered a – back then – rare blend of traditional Uyghur instruments and melodies with electric guitars, synths, jazz, Soviet estrada pop and psychedelic rock. maqomsoulrecords.bandcamp.com
