"Shadows On The Sea"
Previously unreleased
The Family Elan are a trio consisting of Krzysztof Hładowski (A Hawk And A Hacksaw, The One Ensemble, Nalle, Scatter) on Greek bouzouki, elektrosaz and vocals, Harry Wheeler on bass and Shakeeb Abu Hamdan (of Please, Ygrec, Cleckhuddersfax, The Wub) on a western drum kit. “Shadows On The Sea” is taken from a series of new recordings of the trio made at Ouse Studio, Leeds, by Shakeeb Abu Hamdan.
About the release, The Family Elan say: “The song takes its melody from “Yeh Pakistan Hamara” (as performed by Faiz Mohammad Baloch [which can be found in Chris Hladowski's recent Wire Portal on Pakistani music]) set to Hladowski’s vocals and adorned with musical appendages gleaned through the group’s more recent diversions into psych-rock territory – in this case propelled by a The Knack-esque bass and drums swagger, some overblown elektrosaz stylings, and the melodic meanderings of a coveted shahi baaja, kindly lent by artist, musician and Tor Press founder Jake Blanchard.”
