The duo of Beirut based singer songwriter Julia Sabra and Lebanese producer, musician and engineer Fadi Tabbal began working on Snakeskin in the aftermath of the August 2020 Beirut port explosion, which resulted in the death of over 200 people, injured 7000, and left around 300,000 people homeless, with Sabra's home being among those destroyed. The writing of the album was also spurred by the invasion of Armenia by Azerbaijan and the Palestinian uprising of May 2021, and comments on one's relationship to land and home.
