From Tongos'a

KOKOKO! flamed into being when the production company La Belle Kinoise and French producer Débruit visited Kinshasa to collaborate with musicians and instrument builders from the Democratic Republic of Congo capital’s contemporary art scene. Their story went viral in 2017, when an online mini-documentary about them racked up some three million views. Rooted in the reality of a city where the quest for money is everything, the song “Likolo” offers an ironic take on human vanity, with singer Makara Bianko leading a traditional funeral chant from his Bateke ethnicity transformed into a plea for detachment and spirituality: “We are all naked bodies under the sky/We all know how it’s going to end”.,
