"Live At ICES 72" (excerpt)

From Explorations (1970–1973)

Utilising both conventional and homebuilt instruments and live electronics, UK ensemble Gentle Fire (1968–75) explored the boundaries between pitch, sound and noise, developing their own compositions while collaborating with the likes of John Cage, Christian Wolff and Karlheinz Stockhausen. Their six Group Compositions were devised for a series of instruments, complex circuits and verbal scores which removed the barriers between collective composition and improvisation. This excerpt from “Live At ICES 72” is taken from a performance of Group Composition IV at the legendary ICES festival at London’s The Roundhouse theatre in 1972.
