An audio guide to Robert Ridley-Shackleton's Cardboard Club

May 2020

The DIY funk absurdist compiles a selection of tracks from his own imprint

“I think being human is the most punk thing you can be,” says Bristol based performer and Cardboard Club label founder Robert Ridley-Shackleton, speaking to The Wire's Stewart Smith in issue 436. As well as releasing his own lo-fi Prince and Suicide inspired material on underground labels such as Chocolate Monk, Goaty Tapes and Crow Versus Crow, the prolific producer has also published more than 90 releases of his and other musicians' work via his own imprint. This playlist, with annotations by Ridley-Shackleton, largely serves as a showcase for the label, taking in tracks by RRS himself as well as other acts from Bristol and the north of England's underground performing circuits. Read more in The Wire 436.
