Steph Richards made Supersense in collaboration with Detroit based multimedia artist Sean Raspet. The pair teamed up after Richards was inspired to explore the ways in which other senses affect the act of listening, and reached out to scent and flavours expert Raspet, in order to invent new smells that would inform Richards’s playing. Along with bassist Stomu Takeishi, percussionist Kenny Wollesen and pianist Jason Moran, Richards reacted to Raspet's scents as they were emitted into the studio. The smells were then also applied to scratch and sniff cards, which are included with the Supersense physical release, available via Northern Spy.
Here, Richards shares an exclusive video about this particular project, as well as a playlist spanning her earlier albums and several other collaborative projects.
