The Goldennn Meeenn + Sheeenn is a new version of Charlemagne Palestine's 1976 composition The Golden Mean, originally performed by Palestine himself on two pianos. Here he is joined by Rrose, whom he first met over a decade ago, when Rrose wrote to Palestine asking for a score for Strumming Music, wishing to perform it at Mills College. The response came there was no score, but that the two should work together.
This composition shows Palestine transforming rules from the mathematic golden ratio into musical intervals. “It’s probably his most systematic work... a step by step journey through the intervals of the octave,” remarks Rrose. “When we rehearsed it, we were noticing how each interval is like a universe of its own – with its own history, emotions and sonic qualities all mixed up together. Every time you move from one interval to the next, it feels like moving into another world.”
The Goldennn Meeenn + Sheeenn is released on 25 April by Eaux
