Hear an unreleased recording by Vernon & Burns

September 2017

Following the release of a cassette album on Oliver and Laurie Pitt's label Akashic Records, the Glasgow based duo Vernon & Burns share a 16 minute sound piece

Radio playwrights and experimental performers Mark Vernon and Barry Burns released their first record, The Tune The Old Cow Died Of, on Felix Kubin's Gagarin label in 2005. The pair have also released their voice and sample based recordings via Vernon's own label, Meagre Resource, as well as Mort Aux Vaches, an imprint set up to release work commissioned by Dutch broadcasting corporation VPRO. Other radio plays produced by them have appeared on WFMU and Resonance FM.

Vernon & Burns's latest release, From The Cable To The Grave, comes courtesy of Akashic Records, a cassette label ran by Oliver and Laurie Pitt, members of the Glasgow band Golden Teacher.

Originally conceived for Glasgow's Tectonics festival in 2014, this piece is a new studio version of a composition for Fetal Doppler, CPR training aid and found tape.

From The Cable To The Grave is reviewed in The Wire issue 404, along with Various Artists N.E.E.T (Not in Education Employment or Training), also released by Akashic Records. Subscribers can read the review via the online archive.
