Listen to an exclusive performance of Julius Eastman's Stay On It by Apartment House and Elaine Mitchener

September 2017

This recording of the NY minimalist's 1973 piece was made during the 2016 London Contemporary Music Festival; Apartment House will reprise the performance in September at Krakow's Sacrum Profanum

Apartment House's Anton Lukoszevieze explains: "This version of Stay On It is
based loosely on a score transcription made by Paul Pinto, from an archive recording of Julius Eastman performing the work. The work is a structured improvisation and exemplifies a strong Caribbean influence and also a joyful, hedonistic sense of musical abandon."

The line up of Apartment House for the performance consisted of Elaine Mitchener
(voice), Philip Thomas (piano), Xenia Pestova (keyboard), Gavin Morrison & Emma
Williams (flutes), Simon Limbrick (percussion), Gordon MacKay (violin), and Anton
Lukoszevieze (cello). The recording was mastered by Simon Limbrick.

Apartment House and Elaine Mitchener will perform Stay On It and Julius Eastman's
1984 piece Hail Mary at Krakow's Sacrum Profanum festival on 29 September
