Listen to “Krak Teng” from The Bug Vs Sleng Teng

November 2015

The Bug aka Kevin Martin has turned his attention to the “Sleng Teng” riddim for the second release on Swedish instrument manufacturer Elektron’s record label offshoot, Elektron Grammofon.

“Sleng Teng” is one of reggae’s first digital riddims, created by King Jammy and Wayne Smith in 1984 and originally titled “Under Mi Sleng Teng”. The Bug Vs Sleng Teng features four homages/deconstructions of the riddim: “Meth Teng”, “Krak Teng”, "Skag Teng” and “Opi Teng”.

Elektron have announced the launch event Night Of Machines, which takes place at Arena Club in Berlin on 26 November. The Bug will perform live with Flowdan, Manga and Miss Red. The line-up is completed by Frank Bretschneider, Blush Response and Dataline. DJs A/ONA and Philipp Strobel will also be spinning throughout the night.

The Bug Vs Sleng Teng is released by Elektron Grammofon on 30 November.

Yes yes yes yes yes yes

Sounds good as The Bug invariably does, the plug for Sleng teng doesn't work though - sounds very ordinary and indistinct. Perhaps Martin should turn his talent on the often ropey but more exhillerating Gorge scene in Japan?
