The longrunning US art collective continue their run of cut and paste satires with True False
“There are songs about climate breakdown, dead bumblebees, overconsumption and the absurdity of capitalism’s death spiral,” writes Deputy Editor Emily Bick in her review of Negativland's True False in The Wire 429. The first of a two-part set, the album sees the DIY music and arts collective continue their 40 year experiment in audio collaging, even as it contains recordings from the very earliest years of the band. Part two will follow in 2020. Featuring Mark Hosler, David Wills, Peter Conheim and Jon Leidecker, “the team began work in earnest in 2012, folding the decades on top of each other until they finally resembled all the feelings that tomorrow has for today,” adds Emily.
Negativland's True False is released on 25 October by Seeland. Read Emily Bick's full page review of the record in The Wire 429. Subscribers can access the article online via the digital archive.
