Listen to music that will be presented at London’s Sonic Explorations festival

The Sonic Explorations festival is designed to give a snapshot of electroacoustic and electronic music from around the world with performances, workshops, discussions and more.

Co-curated by UK composer Jonathan Harvey, and presented by The London Sinfonietta, the programme is organised under various sub-headings, including 20th Century Classics 1 & 2, featuring music from some of the 20th century’s most influential composers; Letters From The Americas, a showcase for new music from across the Atlantic; and Inside IRCAM and New Work, New Sonics, two spectacular displays of music from international composers past and present.

To get a flavour of the kind of music that will be presented at the festival, we have two pieces for you to listen to: Jonathan Harvey’s Mortuos Plango, Vivos Voco, a 1980 composition (remixed in 1999) for 8 channel tape taken from the Sargasso CD Tombeau De Messiaen; and Roque Rivas’s Conical Intersect: For Bassoon And Electronics, which was recorded live at the Espace the Projection of the Ircam Centre Pompidou on 6 October 2007 with bassoonist Brice Martin.

Sonic Explorations takes place at London Kings Place, 1-3 October
