Air Texture VII, the latest edition in the Air Texture label’s compilation series, sees US techno affiliates and old friends Rrose and Silent Servant compiling one disc apiece of the double CD/LP set. The two of them met in California in the 1990s where they became part of its dark-leaning techno community, regularly appearing on the same bills and releasing music via Regis and Female’s Sandwell District, among other imprints.

“I selected a group of artists that would reflect both the dancefloor and experimental side of my influences,” comments Rrose about their choices, which span 1–12 in this playlist. “I wanted to see if I could make a compilation that sounded as cohesive as an album, but with contributions from a diverse and unlikely combination of artists. The list of names came to me very quickly one morning, and I was very happy that almost all of them agreed to participate. I asked the artists to focus on ‘sound, space and drones’ over easily identifiable beats and songs, and encouraged them to be as sparse and restrained as possible.”

About the compilation’s last 14 tracks, DJ and producer Silent Servant says, “I feel fortunate to be able to bring together so many friends old and new together on this project. All of the artists I curated for Air Texture have touched me in either a live or home listening setting. It is amazing to be able to still bring new things to the surface.”
