Cairo based producer Ahmed El Ghazoly shares an unreleased track

Egyptian beatmaker Zuli recently spoke to The Wire's Maha ElNabawi about his releases on Lee Gamble's UIQ label, Numbers and Bionic Ahmed, where recordings lifted from his home city of Cairo form into bass filled downtempo and dancefloor tracks:

“Four out of the six tracks that made it on Numbers were originally live tracks,” explains Zuli in his living room studio in Cairo, filled with keyboards, MIDI controllers and a laptop. The bedroom-recorded Bionic Ahmed was defined by its minimalistic feel. In contrast, Numbers is full of complex polyrhythms and accelerated BPMs. “Each piece came together over time while performing them live in a club environment throughout my last tour in Europe,” he tells me. “This explains why they’re faster and more rhythmic.”
