Since her emergence on the Chicago jazz and improvised music scene, multi-instrumentalist Angel Bat Dawid has appeared on stage with fellow experimental acts Ben LaMar Gay, Jaimie Branch, Damon Locks, Matthew Lux and Roscoe Mitchell. Her first proper release The Oracle was recorded on Dawid's phone in various locations including London, Cape Town and during her residency in the attic of music venue Radcliffe Hunter House in Bronzeville, South Side, Chicago. Apart from Asher Simiso Gamedze's drum playing on “Cape Town”, all instruments and all vocals are performed and mixed by Dawid.
The Oracle is available on cassette and as a digital download via International Anthem from 8 February. Dawid discusses the creation of her debut album and more in The Wire 421, available to read in print and online from 7 February.
