James Dean Brown and Pietro Insipido formed Hypnobeat in Germany in 1983, with Lars Müller aka Victor Sol and Tobias Freund joining soon after. Between 1984–86 the group produced two cassette albums of analogue electronics called Huggables and Specials/Spatials.
More recently James Dean Brown aka Romulus Cœurque has worked with Hamburg based electro producer and DJ Helena Hauff. The pair have released several records as Hypnobeat after performing improvised sets together using a set-up including one TR-707, three TR-808s and two TB-303s.
Prototech is a collection of tracks from the original Hypnobeat's first two cassettes, released for the first time in vinyl and digital formats on 20 September by Dark Entries/Serendip Lab
