New York based composers and performers Patrick Higgins and Josh Modney have often played together as improvisors and chamber musicians. Guitarist Higgins is also a member of avant-garde group Zs, while violinist and violist Modney was a founder of the Mivos Quartet and is director of the Wet Ink Ensemble.
EVRLY MVSIC, a cassette album released by Vermont label NNA Tapes, sees the pair composing experimental guitar and violin pieces inspired by the Early Music of Europe, with their instruments played in such a way that recall early stringed instruments such as the oud and viol. The latter part of the album introduces electric guitar and real-time electronic processing on both instruments, expanding upon the original acoustic motifs of earlier tracks.
EVRLY MVSIC is available on cassette via NNA Tapes on 22 September 2017.
