“The underground scene here [in Kampala] obviously was very rich” says Ugandan DJ Authentically Plastic, speaking to Gloria Kiconco in The Wire 445, “but I wasn’t really hearing the level of intensity that I wanted, except for singeli obviously,” they say. “Singeli is a very specific sound, but with everything else I wasn’t hearing the level of layering and intensity that I wanted and I guess that’s why I decided to start playing.”

Authentically Plastic will often play across four decks to reach their required level of sonic force, mixing industrial, jungle, techno, gqom, kwaito and more, as demonstrated in this exclusive Wire mix. “What I want people to hear when I’m playing, really,”, they continue, “is this sense of moving with the tide, the wind at your back constantly.”
