Wire Mix: DJ Marcelle/Another Nice Mess

May 2020

The anti-careerist eclecticist shares her Totally Wired Wire Total Mix

“I could not bring myself to play with a USB – I would get physically ill or something,” remarks Marcelle von Hoof, in conversation with Chal Ravens in The Wire 436. The Dutch record collector and producer has been DJing for a living for almost 20 years, these days almost always using three turntables and specially made dubplates of any music that hasn't been released on vinyl.

This home-recorded Wire mix is no exception. “I have used three turntables and one reel-to-reel machine and, as always, I play records on top of each other,” explains DJ Marcelle/Another Nice Mess via email. “For some tracks only tiny fragments were used. Most of the tracks are new or recent, but I have also used a few favourite older artists who are close to my heart (Mark E Smith, Muslimgauze, Au Pairs, Zoviet France, Nurse With Wound) from my 20,000 record collection. I always like to do this for online mixes, though when I play on stage I mainly play newish records.”
