Wire Mix: Kelly Moran

October 2019

Ahead of her performance at Madrid's LEV Festival, the US producer and composer shares a new mix of her own archive material

In this new mix compiled by Brooklyn based multi-instrumentalist Kelly Moran, the artist looks back over four of her previous album releases. Focusing on Microcosms (2010), Movement (2011), Optimist (2016) and Bloodroot (2017), Moran remixes and overlaps certain tracks to create new sounds in themselves.

These featured albums were largely self-released and came before Moran's more recent signing to Warp. In an online interview with The Wire's Emily Bick, the composer talks about a deep listening epiphany which led her down a more improvisatory route within her practice, audible in her latest release Ultraviolet.

As she reflects on her old ways of composing, Moran also looks ahead to her upcoming performance at Madrid's LEV Matadero Festival, where she will present a live AV show encompassing her many styles and approaches.
