Wire Mix: Overlook

June 2019

The UVB-76 label artist shares an exclusive selection of unreleased “audio apparitions and residual hauntings”

“This mix showcases forthcoming music from myself, UVB-76 and The Stone Tapes,” says Bournemouth based producer Jason Luxton aka Overlook. Luxton has released his stripped back, ominous productions via various European drum ’n’ bass and techno labels, but the majority of his output has been presented by the Bristol based UVB-76 imprint, founded by Gremlinz and producer trio Ruffhouse in 2015. Beyond the music of Overlook, the label-cum-collective’s back catalogue has a cohesive sound, described by Ruffhouse member Nick Callaghan as having a “thick atmosphere” and a “deepness”, which matches a strong and eerie visual identity.

The Stone Tapes is one of several UVB sub labels and is co-run by Luxton. Speaking to Louis Pattison in The Wire 424, he describes it as being concerned with sound as “audio apparitions”, inspired by ghost stories and building on the idea of fleetingness or space within a track, leaving room for uncanny apparitions of the imagination.

This is a blatant rip-off of an existing project called the Stone Tapes that came out several years ago and has been up on Bandcamp for a while now. I’m amazed how these scumbags can get away with it!
