The dystopian metal band's drummer and resident artist selects some of his standout designs

In addition to their distinctive sound – drawing on metal, hardcore, post-punk and progressive rock – Quebec's Voivod (interviewed by Joseph Stannard in The Wire 442) are known for their striking artwork, created by drummer and founder member Michel 'Away' Langevin. “Michel always had a pen and a piece of paper, he was always sketching something,” says frontman Denis 'Snake' Bélanger. “It’s a natural thing for him. Back when we were practising, my mum actually found drawings of skeletons everywhere! At the time, I think the whole process of putting the concept together was natural. I was looking at his drawings, we were working on the lyrics together, one thing led to another. When I saw the first cover, the painting that he did, I was blown away.”

Lost Machine: Live is released by Century Media on 27 November.
