A snapshot in time: Andrew Weatherall 1963–2020

February 2020

The London DJ and producer died on 17 February. Culled from The Wire's archive, read two articles penned 20 years apart

Andrew Weatherall died earlier this week. A much celebrated DJ and producer, he effortlessly crossed borders between popular culture and the underground. He was at the forefront of the late 1980s acid house movement. In 1991 he produced Primal Scream’s Screamadelica; he also did remix work for Björk, My Bloody Valentine and The Future Sound Of London, among many others. In the early 90s he founded The Sabres Of Paradise, formed Two Lone Swordsman with Keith Tenniswood and set up the Sabres Of Paradise and Sabrettes labels with longterm collaborator Nina Walsh. More recently he presented a regular show on London's internet station NTS. In 2015 he and Walsh released The Woodleigh Research Facility, which Weatherall followed in 2016 with his solo effort Convenanza on his Rotters Golf Club.

Read Rob Young’s Andrew Weatherall cover feature from June 1996 (The Wire 148), and Chal Ravens’ 2016 Invisible Jukebox (The Wire 385).
