Listen: tracks from Laura Cannell’s Swooping Talons Remixes

November 2015

Listen to four tracks from the remix companion to Laura Cannell’s Beneath Swooping Talons

The distinctive stylings of violinist and recorder player Laura Cannell – who draws on ancient and modern musical traditions to create something both alien and familiar – have attracted considerable praise since the release of her debut album, Quick Sparrows Over The Black Earth, in 2014. In August of this year she released the follow-up, Beneath Swooping Talons, via Front And Follow. As Abi Bliss wrote in her review of the album in The Wire 378, “Wherever Cannell’s melodies have been before now, however, her real triumph is in reviving them to take new, vital form in her own personal setting… Beneath Swooping Talons is both archeological and visceral.”

Now, Front And Follow are set to release Swooping Talons Remixes, featuring reworks from Hoofus, Karen Gwyer, Oliver Coates, Peverelist, Ekoplekz, Kemper Norton, Charles Hayward & Merlin Nova, Lutine and Shape Worship.

Swooping Talons Remixes is out 11 December.

The originals are distinctive, the remixes for once do not detract; of these I particularly like Karen Gwyer & Shape Worship's efforts.
