The London based experimental vocalist, composer and performer responds to “a world that increasingly makes less and less sense”
Merlin Nova's new video for her 2020 track “Set In Stone” plays with the idea of what is real and fake and explores the crossover of digital and manual special effects. The track originally appeared on the artist's debut album BOO!, which Nova self-released and presented as a work in conflict; “a response to contemporary politics and culture”, raising “questions around what role we play”.
Co-created with filmmaker and editor Milo Creese, Nova says the new visuals are “a response to a world that increasingly makes less and less sense”.
“I wanted to make a video that pushed this idea to a place where it becomes both unsettling and playful,” she continues, “forces are defied, rules of gravity go out the window and the qualities of materials are skewed.”
